The 2025 Argentine Triple Crown: Polo’s Greatest Stage Returns

The 2025 Argentine Triple Crown

A new edition of the Argentine Triple Crown is here—the most coveted polo tournament series in the world—which will once again begin with the 132nd Hurlingham Open, the oldest Polo Open, to be played from September 24 to October 4. It will then continue with the 85th Tortugas Country Club Open (October 7–25), and close with the biggest and most anticipated event of the year: the 132nd Argentine Open in Palermo, from October 31 to December 6.

Eight teams, rated between 32 and 40 goals, have secured direct entry. For Palermo, two additional teams will join from the qualifying tournament.

Among the highlights of this Triple Crown is the debut of La Natividad La Dolfina, a true dream team—not only for its perfect 40-goal handicap, but also for its extraordinary lineup. The squad features brothers Camilo and Bartolomé Castagnola, together with their cousin Poroto Cambiaso, currently regarded as the three best players in the world. Completing the team is none other than Adolfo Cambiaso, the legend himself, who with 18 Palermo titles under his belt, will join forces with his son and nephews in pursuit of another championship. Expectations are sky-high, as many see them as favorites to capture the entire Triple Crown—something La Dolfina has achieved before, but never La Natividad.

Next in line, at 37 goals, are La Irenita La Hache and UAE Polo. The fusion of two powerful organizations—La Irenita and La Hache—has produced a formidable team led by Pablo Mac Donough (13-time Palermo champion) and Hilario Ulloa, who is still chasing his long-awaited Palermo title. Alongside them are Francisco Elizalde, who has played with both Mac Donough and Ulloa in past seasons, and South African back Nachi Du Plessis, one of the most solid defenders in recent years. With top-class horsepower, this team will settle for nothing less than glory.

The other 37-goal team, UAE Polo, has also generated plenty of excitement. Rising star Tomás Panelo returns to the UAE organization, with whom he has already achieved big results in England and Dubai. He will form a fast, dynamic midfield with Lukin Monteverde, making his third Palermo appearance. Up front will be Polito Pieres, while the backline is guarded by the legendary Juan Martín Nero, one of the best defenders in history. This is another squad built to win.

Another interesting merger for 2025 is Ellerstina Indios Chapaleufú, uniting the Pieres and Heguy dynasties. The much-anticipated return of Facundo Pieres to his family’s team after two seasons with La Natividad has delighted Ellerstina fans. Alongside his brother Gonzalo Pieres, he has already won every major polo title in the world. Completing the lineup are young talents Antonio and Cruz Heguy, cousins who impressed in Palermo 2024 and are eager for more.

One of the big storylines for 2025 is that none of the lineups from 2024 remain intact. At 34 goals, La Ensenada will begin the season without Sapo Caset, sidelined by injury. His spot will be taken by Gonzalo Ferrari, joining Rufino Bensadon, Juan Britos, and Jerónimo Del Carril—a team that will rely on speed and firepower.

Rounding out the field are three 32-goal teams: La Hache Cría & Polo, Los Machitos, and Sol de Agosto. The latter features the highly anticipated top-flight debut of Paquito de Narváez, fresh off a British Open win and widely seen as one of polo’s brightest young prospects. All three teams will aim to surprise, knowing that their performance this season could determine whether they secure their place in 2026.
