The 54° Torneo Internacional de Polo de Sotogrande (International Polo Tournament) delivered an exciting weekend of action with the finals of the Copa de Bronce Bionesta Pharmaceuticals (Bronze Cup) in its three categories: High Goal (20–22 goals), Medium Goal (12–14 goals), and Low Goal (6–8 goals). Organized by Ayala Polo Club, the tournament reached its climax on Friday, August 1st, and Saturday, August 2nd, at Los Pinos with finals that crowned Les Lions / Sainte Mesme, Muda IZ Polo, and Legacy Polo Team, respectively. In total, 16 teams participated across all three levels of polo.
In the High Goal category, Les Lions / Sainte Mesme were crowned champions after edging out Amanara 9–8 in a thrilling final held on Field 3 at Los Pinos on Saturday, August 2nd. The match was a true spectacle from the outset, with both teams displaying an exceptional level of play. The winning team featured Robert Strom, Dillon Bacon, Hilario Ulloa, and Tommy Beresford.
The decisive goal came in the extra chukker, when Dillon Bacon, after a team play that included an assist from Frenchman Robert Strom, outpaced a rival defender and scored the winning goal. Tommy Beresford played a key role, scoring four goals for the winners and being named the Most Valuable Player of the final. Additionally, Triunfo Cifra, ridden by Hilario Ulloa, was awarded Best Playing Pony of the final, while Meta Alegra, played by Barto Castagnola, received the Argentine Polo Horse Breeders Association blanket.
Amanara, making their High Goal debut in 2025 after two successful seasons in the Medium Goal, put up a great fight with a young and fast team, showcasing their potential at the top level and turning into great contenders for the upcoming tournaments. Their lineup included Nicky Sen, Beltrán Laulhé, Lorenzo Chavanne, and 10-goaler Barto Castagnola.
In the Medium Goal, the victory went to Muda IZ Polo, who became champions after defeating John Smith 15–10 on Field 4 at Los Pinos on Friday. With an outstanding performance from Facundo Sola—man of the match and scorer of 11 goals—the team, also consisting of Firhan Shah, Ciro Urturi, and Gregorio Gelosi, quickly took control of the game, building an unassailable lead. Muda IZ Polo based their strategy on offensive precision and a solid team structure. Pampa, ridden by Gregorio Gelosi, was awarded Best Playing Pony of the final, while cachiyuyo Millonaria, played by Facundo Sola, received the Argentine Polo Horse Breeders Association blanket.
In the Low Goal category, Legacy Polo Team emerged as champions, celebrating their historic first participation in the International Polo Tournament. In the final, they convincingly defeated Hartog Polo Team 13–8. Legacy displayed dominance for most of the match, consolidating their control from the second chukker onward and securing the title with dynamic, well-coordinated play. Bautista Riglos, top scorer of the game, was awarded as the Most Valuable Player of the final, while his horse Mr Buena Gringa was the Best Playing Pony.
The Copa de Plata Terralpa (Silver Cup) kicked off on Monday, August 4th, and will run until Saturday, August 16th, featuring a total of 20 teams; 8 of which will compete in the High Goal division. Fans will have the chance to enjoy the talents of players like Pablo Mac Donough and Lukin Monteverde with MB Polo Team; Poroto Cambiaso with La Dolfina Herederos del Marqués de Riscal; Gonzalito Pieres and Sapo Caset with Whizmo; Barto Castagnola representing Amanara; Antonio Heguy with Dos Lunas; Hilario Ulloa as a key figure for Les Lions / Sainte Mesme; Tomás Panelo with Black Bears; and Polito Pieres, aiming to bring home a title for Calatagan, among other great players.
With free admission, the Torneo Internacional de Polo continues to establish itself as one of the most prominent sporting and social events of the summer in Southern Spain, known for its warm climate and beautiful beaches, blending top-tier polo with a family-friendly experience.
