Marina Ibiza will host the start of Ibiza JoySail 2025 tomorrow, launching four days of racing and social events that have made the regatta a fixed date at the close of the Mediterranean season. Now in its fifth edition, the event brings together a fleet of 22 superyachts ranging from 66 to 144 feet.
The line-up features familiar names such as Moat, Gelliceaux and Open Season, alongside newcomers Esense, Cervo, Magic Blue and Namuun, whose debut will add further depth to the competition. Divided into five categories, the fleet reflects both continuity and renewal within the event.
Each day begins with the skippers’ briefing at 9:45h CEST, followed by the first warning signal at 12:00h CEST when racing gets under way. The courses will take the yachts along the coasts of Ibiza and Formentera, marked by natural points, waypoints and buoys. On Sunday, the final day of racing, no start will be signalled after 15:00h CEST, allowing crews to return in time for the prize-giving ceremony at 18:00h CEST.
From the outset, Ibiza JoySail has placed emphasis on the Corinthian spirit, encouraging sportsmanship and enjoyment above all else. The rules avoid unnecessary modifications to the boats or the hiring of additional crew, ensuring an even playing field and reinforcing the sense of camaraderie among competitors.
Race Director Nacho Postigo noted that the 2025 fleet offers both quality and balance: “Our aim is for every owner and crew to enjoy the sporting element and the wider experience that surrounds it.”
The regatta is organised by Marina Ibiza and STP Shipyard Palma, supported by partners including Southern Wind, Mangusta and Michl Marine. Institutional backing comes from Club Náutico Ibiza, Club Náutico Palma, Ibiza Town Council and the Island Council, together with the ORC and the Superyacht Racing Association. Official suppliers range from North Sails and Global Yacht Moving to Don Julio, Repsol, Roto Club and Super Oh!. Coverage will be provided by leading international media such as Boat International, Diario AS, Superyachts Channel and The Superyacht Group.
Since its launch in 2021, Ibiza JoySail has grown into an invitation-only regatta with an increasingly international profile. According to Dani Marí, General Manager of Marina Ibiza, “In just five years we have seen the event firmly established at the close of the Mediterranean season, and it is a pleasure to welcome such an impressive fleet once again.”
Alongside the racing programme, participants will also have the option of attempting to set or improve the passage record between Mallorca and Ibiza, sailing from the lighthouse of Punta Cala Figuera to Tagomago, conditions permitting.
Ibiza JoySail 2025 opens tomorrow and will run until Sunday 21 September, combining competition on the water with the social atmosphere for which Ibiza is known.
