Set at 3,430 metres above sea level, Las Leñas is Argentina’s highest ski resort and one of South America’s most striking mountain destinations. Tucked deep in the Andes, in Mendoza Province, the resort lies approximately 1,200 kilometres from Buenos Aires — far from the bustle, close to the sky.
Travelers arrive via Mendoza or San Rafael airports before continuing the journey by road along Route 222, winding 342 kilometres through rugged landscapes to reach the base of Las Leñas at 2,240 metres.
Spanning 7,500 hectares, Las Leñas offers an expansive skiable domain served by 14 lifts and 30 marked trails — from gentle beginner slopes to demanding expert routes — alongside renowned off-piste terrain that draws seasoned skiers from around the world. Its altitude grants one of Argentina’s longest continuous descents: a 7.05-kilometre run linking the Apolo, Neptuno, and Venus trails.
The resort’s snow season runs from June to late September, with conditions often lasting deep into the Southern Hemisphere winter.
Las Leñas was the first resort in South America to introduce night skiing, offering guests the rare chance to carve fresh lines under the stars. On select evenings — Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays — the Eros 1 slope remains open until 7 p.m., turning the mountain into an ethereal, moonlit arena.
For advanced skiers and adventurers, the Extreme Expedition offers access to rarely-touched high-altitude terrain aboard a PistenBully 300 snowcat. Guided by mountain experts and patrollers, participants explore pristine descents far from the resort’s traditional circuits — an experience that can be tailored as a half-day or full-day immersion into pure, untouched powder.
Beyond winter, the nearby Valle Hermoso becomes a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. This 50-kilometre valley, rich with lakes and rivers, is ideal for kitesurfing, canoeing, kayaking, and fly-fishing during the warmer months.
Nestled on the lakeshore is Valle Hermoso Eco Lodge, a luxury glamping retreat featuring upscale domes and fine dining. In winter, the area attracts off-piste skiers and snowboarders seeking solitude and open terrain.
Las Leñas offers five mountain hotels — Piscis, Acuario, Aries, Escorpio, and Virgo — ranging from three to five stars, many with spa services and panoramic vistas. Fully equipped slope-side apartments provide additional options for families and longer stays.
The resort’s restaurants serve traditional Argentine fare — grilled meats, hearty stews — perfect for unwinding after a day in the snow. Après-ski lounges offer craft beer, cocktails, and Mendoza’s celebrated wines, creating a relaxed social atmosphere at day’s end.
Las Leñas’ official rental shop provides high-quality equipment, personalized fitting, and on-mountain storage for convenience. Private ski and snowboard lessons cater to all ages and skill levels, from first-timers to seasoned riders.
The Snow Riders program offers a full-day mountain experience for children aged 8 to 13, while younger guests enjoy a dedicated kids’ area complete with sledding and a mini adventure park. Adaptive ski lessons, led by certified instructors, ensure accessibility for skiers with disabilities.
Las Leñas blends alpine adventure with high-altitude serenity — a destination where families, thrill-seekers, and quiet nature lovers find space to roam, rest, and reconnect with the mountain’s grandeur.
